Gynecomastia Surgery: Cosmetic Surgery for Men
August 12th, 2011  Posted By admin   Posted in For Men, Gynecomastia | No Comments »

Gynecomastia – the condition of over developed breasts in males, can occur in men of any age. It may be a hereditary problem or the result of hormonal changes, diseases or use of certain drugs. Gynecomastia can cause a lot of emotional discomfort or self consciousness in adult men. The condition is characterized by:

  • Excessive localized fat
  • Excessive glandular tissue development

Gynecomastia may be present in one or both breasts of the impacted man but cosmetic surgery does have the right treatment for the problem. In Florida, always consult a board certified surgeon for your gynecomastia surgery. Dr. George Pope the well known cosmetic and revisionist surgeon of Florida has more than 20 years of experience in different plastic surgery procedures for men and women. You can consult him for any queries and can also discuss your expectations from the treatment.

Surgical correction of gynecomastia can be best performed on healthy individuals who do not have any life-threatening diseases or medical conditions that obstruct healing. Smoking must be stopped completely at least 2 weeks before the surgery. The use of blood thinning medicines such as aspirin must also be discontinued.

Gynecomastia is a reduction mammoplasty and is a permanent treatment for the problem. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and intravenous sedation. Liposuction techniques are also used in cases where the primary cause of gynecomastia is obesity or excess fatty tissues.

Excision techniques are also used during the surgery if a glandular breast tissue or excess skin needs to be removed. Excision is also necessary in cases where the areola needs to be reduced or the nipple has to be repositioned for a more natural male contour.

After the surgery, the patient will feel some pain, discomfort and swelling or bruising will also persist for sometime. But the pain killers prescribed by your plastic surgeon will be enough to take care of this! Strenuous workouts must be avoided for a few days though the person can return to work after 7-10 days from the surgery. A flatter and more masculine chest is the direct result of the surgery.

Dr. George Pope is an expert on gynecomastia surgeries. He has performed many over his 22 years in Central Florida. No matter who you choose to perform your gynecomastia surgery, make sure that doctor is a board certified plastic surgeon.

Gynecomastia: A Life-Changer for Many Men
May 5th, 2011  Posted By Dr. Pope   Posted in For Men, Gynecomastia | No Comments »

Gynecomastia is the enlargement of gland tissue in male breast. It is different from pseudogynecomastia which refers to the fat deposits in chest of obese men. Gynecomastia actually results from abnormal growth of glandular or breast tissue which is not developed in men.

One of the known causes of Gynecomastia is hormonal imbalance. Estrogen and Androgen hormones control the body contour development and sexual characteristics. Both the hormones are present in all humans but estrogen is normally present in very small quantities in men as it only helps to control bone density and emotional mood in males. Excessive estrogen can stimulate male breast growth.

A mother's estrogen transmitted in the womb can result in swollen breasts for more than half of male babies. The imbalance of hormones during puberty is also very common. Certain medications can also lead to Gynecomastia. Another reason for such condition may be related to tumors such as Bronchogenic Carcinoma.

The sign of Gynecomastia is the presence of breast tissue greater than 0.5 cm in diameter in a man. In most cases the condition can be diagnosed by a physical examination. However, a medical history may also be required to check if the problem was caused by any tumor, disease or medications taken.

Cosmetic Surgery can be permanent treatment for Gynecomastia. Men considering a surgery must stop taking blood thinning medicines such as Asprin to avoid excessive bleeding during the surgery. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The doctor removes any tissue present in the breasts and then uses liposuction if excess fat needs to be removed from the tissues. To reduce bleeding  during the surgery, the doctor uses an epinephrine as in most liposuction procedures. The average duration for a Gynecomastia surgery is between 1 to 2 hours.

The patient is normally released on the same day after about two hours when the effect of anesthesia reduces. Some patients tend to feel nauseated on regaining consciousness from anesthesia. This is completely normal and stops after some time. Pain killers can be taken to relieve the general discomfort after surgery. Patient can also use ace bandages to support the chest while the tissues get healed. Workouts and strenuous activities must be avoided for a few weeks after the surgery.

April 28th, 2011  Posted By Dr. Pope   Posted in Cosmetic Procedures, For Men, General News, Gynecomastia | No Comments »

Statistics by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons show that more men are undergoing cosmetic surgeries than ever before. And why not? Men deserve to look and feel confident about themselves, too. We’re happy that more men are taking their looks seriously and understanding what plastic surgery can do to enhance their lives.

And it’s not just celebrities and politicians seeking plastic surgery services. The type of guys that many plastic surgeons (including us) are noticing in their practices are guy’s guys—manly men who simply want to look as great as they feel.

Orlando Plastic Surgery Center - More Men Undergoing Plastic Surgeries

There are so many different procedures that men can benefit from at a plastic surgeon. One of our most popular at Orlando Plastic Surgery Center is gynecomastia surgery. Dr. Pope specializes in this surgery for men who have excess chest fat that resembles more of a woman’s breast than a man’s chest. The results are not only breathtaking, but life-changing for men plagued with this embarrassing condition that cannot be cured from diet or exercise.

Other popular procedures for guys include injectables like Botox and Juvederm mainly because they are less invasive and require little recovery time. But according to ASPS statistics, the top ten fastest growing cosmetic procedures among men aren't injectables—they are minimally invasive surgeries.

The following list shows the fastest growing surgical and minimally invasive procedures from 2010 to 2011:

1. Facelift – 14% Increase
2. Ear Surgery (Otoplasty) – 11% Increase
3. Soft Tissue Fillers – 10% Increase
4. Botulinum Toxin Type A – 9% Increase
5. Liposuction – 7% Increase
6. Breast Reduction in Men – 6% Increase
7. Eyelid Surgery – 4% Increase
8. Dermabrasion – 4% Increase
9. Laser Hair Removal – 4% Increase
10. Laser Treatment of Leg Veins – 4% Increase
