There comes a day when we all look in the mirror and see a face we don’t quite recognize. All the same features are there, but a look of tiredness is evident, especially around the eyes, where age is most visible.
Brow lift surgery can turn back the clock, making droopy eyebrows or excessive lines and wrinkles on their forehead disappear.
Such lines and wrinkles appear due to advancing age and also if the skin is frequently exposed to harmful UV rays of the sun. However, a brow lift surgery can not only eliminate all those fine lines and wrinkles but also help in improving the entire anatomy of the face.
Typically, a brow lift surgery involves tightening of skin and/or removal of excessive fat if necessary. However in certain cases, the cosmetic surgeon may also move, rearrange or shorten the muscles in the forehead. The kind of treatment depends upon the individual requirements of patient and his/her forehead structure.
There are three main muscles that may be rearranged during a brow lift surgery: the frontalis, the corrugator, and the procerus.
The frontalis muscle runs from the hairline straight down to the eyebrows. It draws the eyebrows and the skin of forehead up, forming horizontal wrinkles across forehead. The inner (medial) and outer (lateral) parts of frontalis muscle can function independently. This is why some people can raise only one eyebrow and not the other. The corrugator is a small muscle that pulls eyebrows to the center of face and downward, forming vertical wrinkles in the glabella area (the space between eyebrows and above nose) and horizontal wrinkles at the bridge of nose. The procerus muscle runs from the nasal bone and cartilage at side of nose and fans upward to the center of forehead. This muscle pulls down the skin at the center of forehead, forming transverse wrinkles in the glabella region and bridge of nose.
Droopy or sagging eyebrows are pulled and lifted to the right position by correcting and rearranging the forehead muscles.
A brow lift surgery is usually performed on at outpatient basis and takes about 1-2 hours to complete. It can be performed under general as well as local anesthesia. The surgery can also be performed in conjunction with a facelift surgery and blepharoplasty (eye lid surgery).
Slight pain and discomfort is normal after the surgery as the impact of anesthesia reduces gradually. However it only lasts for a few hours. Medications prescribed by the surgeon can be taken to minimize the pain. The results of the surgery can be fully observed in 20 to 30 days.

A brow lift surgery can eliminate the winkles and excessive lines from the forehead and rectify drooping eyebrows to improve the appearance of the entire face. There are several types of a brow lift surgeries that differ basically by incision technique. An experienced board certified surgeon can determine the most appropriate technique for patients based on their appearance.
Generally the incisions for a brow lift surgery are made at the hairline, behind the hairline, above the brow, or in the mid forehead. Some of the common brow lift procedures used by cosmetic surgeons include:
Direct Brow Lift: This is performed using one of the horizontal wrinkles or creases in the forehead. The muscles are tightened through an incision and excess skin and tissues are removed to create a smooth forehead surface.
Full Coronal Technique: This is one of the oldest techniques for brow lift surgery. An incision is made from one temple to the other across the crown of the patient’s head. The incision is hidden behind the hairline. The skin and if required the muscles are pulled upwards and re-draped. Any excess skin is eliminated. Full coronal bow lift technique is for people who need a more significant lift.
Temporal Brow Lift: This is also referred to as lateral brow lift. Incisions are made at the temples behind hairline. This brow lift surgical technique can correct the folds and small wrinkles in the patient’s forehead, glabella and corners of eyes.
Temporal Brow Lift with Suture Suspension: This is the same technique as temporal brow lift but uses internal and permanent sutures to suspend muscles and tissues.
Brow lift surgeries can also be performed endoscopically. These are suitable for young individuals who do need a lot of lift for their forehead or eyebrows. The endoscopic technique may also be used with a suture suspension.
The total recovery period from a brow lift surgery is about 2 to 3 weeks. The post surgery swelling subsides during this period and patients can return to normal routines with a better and aesthetically improved forehead appearance.

A brow lift surgery is for those who want to remove wrinkles, lines, and drooping skin from their forehead to give a more youthful appearance to their eyebrows. A board certified surgeon should be consulted to determine if you are the ideal candidate for a brow lift surgery. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and requires incisions on the forehead and/or the eye lid to improve the appearance of the brow and forehead.
The recovery time after different plastic surgery procedures, including brow lift surgery, is most overwhelming for patients. It should be remembered that healing is a gradual process and one cannot expect a magical reformation within hours after the surgery. Full results of a brow lift surgery begin to appear about 20 to 30 days after the surgery.
After surgery, you can expect to feel slight pain and discomfort. Your cosmetic surgeon will prescribe some medications and pain killers to be taken during the recovery process after the surgery.
The forehead and scalp usually feel tight and warm after a brow lift surgery. Bruising and swelling are normal for all patients and tend to last for around seven to ten days. Some patients may even observe under-eye swelling. This, however, subsides soon. Applying cold compressors on the head and face does help to reduce swelling and bruising. Herbal remedies may also be used after consulting the board certified surgeon.
It is important to sleep with the head in an elevated position after the brow lift surgery. Strenuous exercises must be avoided for at least 5-6 days following the surgery. The intake of alcohol also should be stopped. Smoking must also be avoided in the post-surgery period.
Swelling and bruising usually subsides in seven to ten days after the brow lift surgery though the real difference in facial look comes in about 20 to 30 days. The final outcome is a more youthful appearance and sharp facial features.

Also known as a forehead lift surgery, a brow lift surgery reduces the lines or creases on forehead, giving it a smoother appearance, and elevates the position of the eye brows for a more youthful look.
A brow lift is often combined with other operations such as blepharoplasty and facelifts to improve the look of the eyes and other areas of the face.
In a traditional brow lift surgery, the surgeon makes a full incision across the top of forehead, behind the hairline. Through this incision, the muscles are tightened and excess skin and tissues are removed to create a smoother forehead surface. The forehead skin is also elevated to lift the position of the eyebrow line and remove horizontal wrinkles. The initial incision is then carefully sutured and closed.
Brow lift surgeries can also be performed endoscopically. In this procedure, several incisions are made in scalp or head. The forehead skin is pulled through these incisions to make it firmer. This is less invasive than traditional brow lift surgery and leaves lesser scars as the incisions are made in scalp. The recovery time is also less in an endoscopic brow life surgery than a traditional surgery.
The average duration of brow lift surgeries is 1 to 2 hours. All eye brow lift surgeries are performed under general anesthesia and patients can be released on the same day, 2 to 3 hours after the surgery. There may be some pain, swelling and discomfort for a few days following the surgery. This is normal and subsides with time. Painkillers prescribed by the surgeon can be taken to avoid such discomfort. Patients can return to normal work within 2 to 3 weeks. The surgeon must be consulted if pain or any discomfort still persists. The results of a brow lift surgery also start to show within 2 or 3 weeks. A younger look and less wrinkled skin are things that can be noticed by anyone.
Brow lift surgeries can be considered by both women and men. It is an effective solution against drooping eye brows and wrinkled forehead skin. Ideally, an eye brow lift surgery, if required, should be taken by people over 40 years of age. It is neither required nor recommended for young adults.

Our emotions are best seen on our faces. Depending on what we feel, our facial expressions change. The part of the face that manifests this the most is our forehead. A lot of factors influence the condition of the skin our forehead, these are: aging, gravity and stress. There is the tendency for the eyebrows to sag causing a hooding of the upper eyelids and further resulting to a tired appearance.
Brow Lift is the procedure that fixes this problem in order to regain and maintain that youthful appearance. Brow Lift reshapes and elevates the eyebrow thereby improving the eye. For better results, a brow lift may be combined with an eyelid lift.
You may wish to consider a brow lift in the following situations:
- A tired appearance caused by the sagging and hooding of the forehead
- Presence of deep horizontal crease along the forehead
- The eyebrows and the top of the nose have deep frown lines
- Obstruction of peripheral vision because of the excess skin on the upper eyelids
Upon consultation the surgeon will first conduct a thorough examination of your facial skin condition. Your medical history will be taken to determine the factors that might affect the outcome of the surgery. The surgeon will discuss concerning goals of the treatment and what the client would want to look like afterwards.
The procedure is done using light anaesthetic with deep sedation. It is performed in an outpatient facility. The classic method of brow lift hides the incision in the natural skin folds like the scalp hairline. This method reduces the appearance of wrinkles. Excess skin is removed and the eyebrows are elevated.
The endoscopic lift method involves incisions placed behind the hairline. A surgical telescope probe called and endoscope is used to help in performing this procedure. The wrinkling and the frown lines are addressed and improved, while the excess skin is removed to reveal a smoother and you-looking forehead. Another device will be inserted through a different incision to assist in making alterations. Titanium anchors are used to secure the altered tissue. This procedure is less invasive and minimal scarring is experienced.
Bruising and swelling are expected post surgery. The surgeon will prescribe antibiotics to reduce infection risks. Clients are normally allowed to wash their hair 1-2 days after.. The sutures and staples will be removed 7-10 days from the day of surgery.
Results of the procedure are expected to last for several more years. Clients who have undergone the procedure feel more rejuvenated and renewed. The facial enhancement greatly boosts self-esteem creating a more assertive and more confident individual.
Complications from the surgery are uncommon but possible risks include bleeding, infection and anesthesia reactions. Other risks include pain, numbness, itchiness, and poor healing, but they are easily treatable and are not serious.
