Skin and fat atrophy over time but so do jaw, check, and eye-socket bones according to researchers at the University of Rochester.  Changes such as upper eyelid drooping,  cheeks and jowls going limp, and sinking eye sockets sound quite depressing but these are the changes that appear to be more visible than simple sagging skin.

A study published in the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in January showed that older people had receded chins and shorter jaws than younger people did. A follow-up to this study also showed that as people age, their cheekbones and eye sockets sink causing cheeks to sag and brows to droop.

By adding fat taken from other parts of a person's body to the face, a person can once again look more youthful. Fat can be taken from a person's stomach, thigh or hips and injected into the face. Implants, fat injections, and stretching the skin will all be techniques that cosmetic surgeons like us will have to employ in the future when planning the revitalizing of an aging face.
